A Quick Review from Robert Isenberg:
On the surface, Mallorca looks like your run-of-the-mill, award-winning romantic fine dining experience, with its beautiful gated-brick porch and an elite corps of eager servers. Founded by owner Antonio Pereira, Mallorca is also Pittsburgh's leader in traditional Spanish cuisine, and guests are expected -- as they would do in Iberia -- to spend hours in the tightly packed room, talking, tasting wines and savoring every bite of their Mediterranean dishes. But Mallorca's list of entrees and striking collection of wines are only half the story; flip a page of the menu and you will find house specialties, an assortment of the restaurant's more exotic meals. For example, diners may enjoy rare lechon asado (roast suckling pig), cabrito en salsa de vino rojo (baby goat in red-wine sauce), or codornizes rellenos (stuffed quails in curry sauce). Mallorca has also been known to serve ostrich and rabbit. While the eatery is reputedly expensive, enormous portions and a heap of local and national awards make Mallorca a special-occasion must. Don't miss the quenching pitchers of homemade sangria.
